The Healing Garden

The Healing Garden is a mini-festival about the healing arts which takes place within the Commercial Drive Car-Free Festival each year in June.  It is an oasis of for healing, relaxation, rejuvenation, learning and meditation. The Commercial Drive Car-free Festival currently attracts over 40,000 people each year.

At the Healing Garden, diverse artists, healing arts practitioners and grassroots organizations are invited to create their own uniquely creative temples as healing spaces amidst the massive festivities that surround us.  All services are offered by donation and festival goers are given the opportunity to experience modalities and healing art forms that they may not normally encounter.  Also, free workshops, performances and participatory exercises in a wide range of healing arts are offered throughout the day.

Some History:

In 2005,  Amy K. Ruth and Little Woo worked together to create the first humble “Healing Corner” event and since 2006,  Little Woo has been the organizer for the Healing Garden and a member of the Commercial Drive Festival Committee.

2010 was Little’s 6th year in this volunteer role – coordinating about 100 volunteer participants (practitioners, facilitators, performers, healing arts groups and volunteers) to transform Grant street into a healing oasis.  Thousands of people passed through the Healing Garden area from diverse cultural and generational backgrounds.  Spectators become participants as they take part in the various interactive aspects of the Healing Garden.
