AUGUST SUBLET Available
Available July 31 to August 20

Hello all you shiney people!

I'm going to be away for most of August and would like to sublet my room....

-Available July 31 to August 20 (maybe longer but don't know for sure yet...)

-It's in a beautiful, colorful character house in East Van, centrally located, shared with 2 great guys (Jeet-Kei and Matt) and one friendly cat.

-The room is south facing with a big window, a comfy queen-size bed, a walk-in closet, and a desk (with an old computer if you don't have a laptop)
-you would essentially have your own bathroom as there are 2 and the guys tend to stick to one. (it has a big claw-foot tub for bathing)
-the house has a big south-facing (lots of sun!) back yard with pear and plum tree, and a garden with veg that you can tend (and eat!) if you have a green thumb!

-the house is all hard-wood and tile floors, and has insuite laundry
-wireless internet connection included, but we do not have cable (DVD player of course to watch movies though, and an extensive movie collection)

-For the 3 weeks it would be $300, essentially $100 per week.
If you are interested please contact me!

Participants Wanted
Online Survey for a Research project entitled "Ecotopia Revisited"

We ask your confidential participation in a fifteen-minute pilot survey for an academic research project you may find interesting. Here, for example, are a few agree/disagree statements drawn from the survey:

- The possibility of a near-future global environmental, political, or other catastrophe is a real one.
- My spirituality arises more from what feels true or right for me than what someone else says is true
- Natural products are better for us and for the environment than artificial products.

Why this research project? In the mid-1970s, Ernest Callenbach published the influential novel Ecotopia, which described a secessionist utopia in the Pacific Northwest. Our collaborative research project, entitled Ecotopia Revisited, gathers empirical data in order to gain some insight into the environmental, spiritual, and social dimensions of contemporary utopian communities. This study builds on scholarly understanding of spiritual “seeking” and “dwelling” and also constructs new multi-item scales to measure dystopianism and ecological utopianism. Completion of the pilot survey will help us test statistical reliability of these scales.

To get started, click here: http://tinyurl.com/4d7pbw

You don’t have to live in the region to complete this pilot survey. We greatly appreciate your help and assure the confidentiality of your answers.

Seeking New Opportunities

After having sold my Scuba diving business (casting lead) last summer, I find myself in transition, and seeking new opportunities.

I have continued doing a variety of metal work
(casting aluminum and bronze and light fabrication in steel).

Other areas of interest and experience include:
- event / workshop management and promotion
(like Freddy Silva, Carl Calleman, Paul Elder, and Linda Moulton Howe)
- small business support (sales, marketing, research, consulting, etc).

I have many years of businesses knowledge and experience to share. Let me know if there is anything that we can work on together to our mutual benefit and profit.

My greatest qualifications ? I have no fear of death or public speaking. :-)

ROOMMATES WANTED
FOR JULY 1st

I am looking for 2 or 3 mature, adult women to find a house together to share.

You must be a non-smoker and ideally you are involved in new thought philosophy such as Eckhart Tolle, Dan Millman, etc. I have two nine year old cats. They're not use to sharing with other animals but, perhaps a small, quiet dog might be O.K. if we can find a landlord who would allow us to have pets.

I love gardening and have a lot of plants so I'm prepared to do most of it. I live in West Vancouver at the moment and want to stay in this area. I can afford $750 per month, including utilities and need roommates you can also afford the same amount. I'm planning on being moved by July 1st. Together, I'm sure, we could find a beautiful, peaceful, quiet home to share. Please R.S.V.P. as soon as possible. Thank-you.

It's Cool to Care Campaign
message from Shaeah Fialkow

Hello, Dearest Friends,

I am launching a project called: It's Cool to Care! - a city wide Care Campaign to inspire all citizens to treat each other like the family that we are! Transforming Vancouver and the World into a City and Globe that Cares!!

The intention of the project is to generate a spirit and consciousness of love, compassion and unified connection throughout Vancouver and ultimately the World.

The goal is to have a day to week long event in Vancouver at the end of February (Feb 22, 23 &/or 24th as an initial suggestion?- which would be better a weekday or weekend day?) where 200 people perform random acts of kindness. I envision schools getting involved, by creating a project or contest for the students to create posters with mottos and pictures that portray their expression of what Caring means and looks like to them - the top 12 will become posters for the event and plastered around the city!! And then perhaps excursions/field trips where classes go out to a chosen location (children's hospital, nursery home, parks, neighbourhoods) and take action that expresses their care for people and/or the environment.

What is required is 20 Head Care Ambassadors who are willing to take on certain aspects of this project, such as:

• creating the website (we need this up and running asap!-any volunteers?)
• website management
• getting sponsors- 10+ donating $100+ (some ideas are: Choices, Starbucks, MEC, Lululemon, neighbourhood stores, etc.)
• recruiting 10 more Care Ambassadors each = 200 people total
• Organization (coordinating people,
• Promo Materials (we need 2 promo packages, 1 for media, 1 for schools)
• Artwork/Design (we need a logo right away!! and eventually will need t-shirts or armbands or pins-something to identify us as Care Ambassadors for the event)
• Schools Laisons (we need key players in the Vancouver school board and at schools to get on board asap - any tips?)
• anything else you can think of...

Anyone who has expertise, willingness and drive to be involved in anyway I request that you contact me as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any people or resources that would contribute to the ease, flow and success of this project please let me know.

For those of you on Facebook I have created a group: IT'S COOL TO CARE (make sure you join the one in all caps, the other one was limited to Vancouver so I created a new one that was accessible to everyone)
this is a good place for discussion of ideas until the website is up and running which will hopefully be soon!

I am super excited about this project and know that with the incredible community of talented, skilled and caring people that we are we can truly transform Vancouver into a City that Cares!

In loving service to all,

UBC Study about Interpersonal Relationships and Well-Being

We would like to let you know about a study that we are conducting. If you can help out in any way, by taking part or letting students or friends or colleagues know about the study, it would be greatly appreciated. We are hoping to get a total sample size of 1000 men and women over the age of 18 so we can use all the help we can get and we are hoping this word-of-mouth method of sampling will help. As long as participants can read English, it does not matter where they live.

The questionnaires take only about 10 minutes to complete. The study is being conducted over the web so participants don't even have to leave their home or office computer to take part! We will be using a secure
server, which means that we won't know who is responding so participants don't need to worry that we'll be looking up their answers!

Anyone interested in taking part in the study, can go directly to the

Employment Wanted
Entertainment Industry Work

I am conducting an experiment...I quit my job (restaurant) because it was eating my soul away and robbing me of anything creative inside of me.  Now I did this even though I am broke and even though I have no other income other than burlesque, which really doesn't count because by the time I get my costume together I usually spend more than I get back. I am now giving myself one month to find another job, and this is where I need your help. I

love the entertainment industry! I want to be a part of film and I want to make film. I need a job. Now I have experience, in high school I took a video arts career program and in 2000 I graduated from the Victoria Motion Picture School, with a diploma in Acting for the Screen. I've done about 12 short films during that time, as well as extra work on a music video and a feature film. Most recently I was a production assistant and an extra on a lovely short, shot here in Vancouver called "Finding Llorona" by Claudia Medina. As I said earlier I also perform burlesque, performing in such shows as "the Battle of the Sasses" as Chef Teddy and "Comic Book Burlesque" as Batman of Batman & Robin.

I am smart, I'm creative, I am a hard worker, I'm easy going, I work well with other and I'm always on time.  If any of you out there know of some jobs in the entertaiment field and want someone fun and hard working, please contact me.  In terms of the performance side I know some avenues and next week I'm having some headshots done, but I also want to be involved behind the scenes.

Please help this experiment work,
Forever grateful, Nathan

Save INSITE, North America’s first supervised safe injection facility

This program started as a three-year study in September of 2003, and the results have been incredibly impressive. INSITE has reduced public injections, reduced the transmission of blood-borne infections like HIV and Hepatitis C, and reduced the number of injection-related infections which results in less visits to emergency.

Most significantly, however, is that of 453 overdoses at INSITE, not one has resulted in a fatality. This is strong evidence of the success that this project has had in reducing the harm to drug-users and increasing community safety.

The community, with me as their spokesperson, began a campaign to bring to the attention of the prime minister the breadth of support that Insite has from the community. See http://www.communityinsite.ca  for more info about the campaign.

However, despite its successes, INSITE is at risk of closing down. The facility exists because of an exemption under Section 56 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. If Prime Minister Stephen Harper does not renew this exemption, this facility will close down as of September 12th of this year. Therefore, I am urging you to take action.

If you believe that INSITE should continue, then please let Stephen Harper know! See attached campaign button for a direct link to sending a letter to the prime minister. If you do, please copy us at info "at" communityinsite "dot" ca

If we can speak with one voice, we can let our government know how people really feel about this important program.

Thank you.
